Re: my ? about dog training from yesterday; what do you make of this?
Yesterday I asked this question, Is it possible to get a dog to do what it's been trained not to do without training it again? answers.yahoo.com question index ylt AgZvldPN72ykY9Ez8pd1Shnsy6IX ylv 3?qid 20120502014256AAieMgw In my old neighborhood there was this dog that was trained to not go near people and to stay in its own yard unless her owner was with her or gave her permission she wasn't even allowed near his kids unless he permitted her to and these two commands were repeated on a daily basis. So, she had plenty of repetition. In my replies we got it down pat about the level of training and that repetition is highly important. Now I have more to add to the story. Before I go on it is imperative that I say this neighbor and the dog had no contact whatsoever and this neighbor had never spoken once to the dogs owner. Yet, the dog took it upon itself to go into that particular neighbors yard and make friends with her.It sounds bizarre because it is bizarre and this is one of those things that people are going to look at you with a full deal of skepticism. Yet, the story is true. And I assure you it is not easy to tell.Needless to say the owner was none to happy and had to go back to the drawing board. And why do you say that Sisyphus?Besides I only ask because I have a need to know. Well, it goes to show it's wise not to talk about it.

Aggressive dog training?
Hello out there, can you tell me Aggressive Dog Training, can you give me an advice on it.ThankzMichael Steve.

Why are people so demagogue about dog training?
Hitting a dog is the best way to train him.Dogs that didn't receive physical correction are hysterical, expansive, dominant and stubborn. Look at my dog, he was always jumping on me, i tried to say no, i praised him when he was not jumping on me, it lasted about a week until i got really really angry at him and hit him, he never jumped on me anymore. After that he really respects me, he became a little more self centered and serene, he is now acting like a dog not like a craze b tch.

Hubby is against my dog training business, he thinks I am charging too low?
I am a certified dog trainer and live in an area of poverty. My liability insurance is very expensive and I am struggling to cover it with my earnings. Hubby puts pressure on me to get the insurance money back, and we are fighting tonight because I am charging a client $15 for classes to go to his home a 15 minute drive away. My thought $15 dollars is better than nothing and will help me get the insurance money back. His thought I am selling myself too low and wasting my time. I know for a fact that if I asked this client more he would not have done it. This guy works for a dollar store and I even feel bad to charge so much.

Looking for info on dog training bells?
Where can i find the dog training bells used to symbol 'potty'?I have a pom pup currently training to go outside, she's doing well, holding her wee a couple of hours, and peeing outside when i let her. I noticed today her stood against the door, when i opened it she ran straight out and pee'd. Brilliant, my only problem is if i'm in another room i'm not gonna see. She's so little that when she needs to go she's gonna go, and i don't want it to be inside lol So i've read a few people mentioning bells? I just wondered where can i buy them, are they effective and how do you train to use them??And info would be great Dx x xEsme Nope the only time she barks is at night when she's crated. She lets out a yap if she needs potty. In the day she doesn't Blue chaos Thats not a bad idea, would probably been cheaper too, thanks Peg definatley going to make them, will have to wait til tuesday now. So the trick is to open the door when the bells ring, even if there rang by accident? Also if i open the door everytime won't she just start ringing when she fancies abit of garden time? lol Also i have a pvc door, should get to scratched up, i hope

A dog training question?
I am hoping to bring home a five month yellow lab next week. She's been in foster and has very good manners. This is my question. Is it possible to teach her that some furniture is ok and others isn't? Her foster mom described her as a real cuddle buggy, which I really need right now. My husband would freak out if I actually let her sleep on our bed, but I have a spare bed that I occasionally nap on that she would be more than welcome to be on.

Where can I find free dog training?
I'll be 16 tomorrow and I have five dogs right now including the little puppy I recently found . I have a 7 year old min pin, a 13 year old jack russel mix i rescued last year that acts like he's 2, an 8 year old chow Shepard mix I also recently rescued, a chihuahua mix puppy that I found and bottle fed, and a 6 7 week old pit bull puppy I found in the park that no one has claimed so far. My dogs need some training help for things like stay, come, leave it, not to run outside the front door and bark at people outside or at visitors at the door. The jack russel also needs to be trained to stop humping everything that moves. My mom won't pay for the training as I am allowed to have as many pets as I can pay for myself. I do baby sitting and other things to get money to feed them and give them vet care, but I don't have enough left over to afford training. They all know all their basic commands except the chihuahua puppy and the little pit bull puppy I just found. They both only know sit and lay down . Where can I find someone to come help train my dogs or somewhere I can take them to get help? It's very hard to train all of them because they keep distracting each other.

Legit dog training websites/materials?
I need help. I need to train my dog and I need materials, suggestions, advices and tips. Can you give me a good site that has something to do with dog training?

What the best dog training website?
Im looking for an all round website with different answers which i can use in my pet class at college. Any ideas?Dog experiences as well are good

Best dog training treats?
I'm a newbie volunteer dog walker at my local animal shelter. It is suggested that all dog walkers have some treats on hand to train the dogs or to use when distracting the dog, if needed. Lately, I've been using some organic dry treats. Some of the dogs will take the treats while some will sniff but not eat the treats. The shelter promotes the use of hot dog bits as treats. So my question is, are there any treats in particular that are moist and have a potent smell that are somewhat healthy that dogs really like? If I get hot dogs, they are going to be organic.

Good dog training webstites?
We found a stray dog about a year and a half ago. I have a lot of time now and want to train her she can already sit when I tell her to but are there any videos on how to train a dog to come when called and other things? Thanks

Client stopped coming to dog training classes what should I do?
I sent a reminder e mail last week for classes, with no reply. She never showed up. I stopped sending her reminder e mails but since this was my first client I used to work with a trainer I can't stop thinking about why she stopped coming...I am tempted to send a follow up e mail but I don't want to show I am desperate or weak...truth, is my dog trainer insurance costs an arm and a leg and she was my first client and I am struggling to find more because I live in the country people warned me this is the wrong place Should I follow up or just let it go?Launi I hold dual certification and trained for Petsmart and have 200 hours of studentship under my belt.Caoscle, dog trainer insurance is for liability, like if a dog bites or hurts another dog, I would never be able to sleep without it.bluebonnet, was a basic manner class for 8 weeks, dog was starting to respond and heeling nicely on leash..her hubby was at last class and was asking a zillion questions as to why I was splitting exercises instead of asking the finished product right away..perhaps this played a role on this... I think they wanted immediate results, but then he said he was seeing good improvements in heeling, so I am confused.. they looked forward to start clicker training in next class...and then just stopped responding to e mails...I use positive reinforcement onlyI don't think it is pricing..I made her a discount and she wanted to pay full price..this was second class out of 8

First client dropped out of my dog training classes, already!?
I used to work under a master trainer and now opened my own business. I am an experienced trainer training since 2008 with 300 hours of apprehentiship under my belt and now certified. Client brought her hubby along in class 2 and he was saying already how much progress he had seen already but then he started asking a zillion questions on why I was splitting exercises in baby steps instead of training the finished product from the get go. I explained I was making it easy for the dog and that we would then chain things together. I always gave handouts to help with homework. Was kind, understanding, patient. My sessions were 1 hour but I gladly spent for free an extra half hour just to discuss behavior problems. We ended our session and the couple appeared eager to start clicker training in the next class. Yet, they stopped coming and in ignored my reminder e mails for classes What I don't understand is why all my years in training, certifications mean nothing when an inexperienced cashier in a pet store just reads a manual and her classes are always full I know cause I worked for a big box pet store as a trainer for a few months ago but escaped cause I found the classes ridiculous. Because I live in a very rural area, I cannot find any more clients. My dog liability insurance costs an arm and a leg and I only made $40 so far. I feel like crying and calling it quits....I had a big career ahead but just because I live in a stupid place in the midwest, biggest city is 2 hours away and even the one client I had stopped coming, I have to stop doing what I love

Dog training. When your dog anticipates your command and does it before you say it?
Do you still reward them or only when you have told them to do it? When I am training my dog he usually picks it up quite quickly. Instead of waiting for me to tell him what to do he gets the point and does it anyway. For example, after a few rounds of 'lie down' he knew that if he lies down he will get a treat. Same with 'roll over' after a few minutes training he rolled over without being told. Do I praise this or only do it when he responds to a voice command.I have also noticed that he responds better to hand signals. Without meaning it I have a different hand movement for every command. So if I point at him with an upright slightly curled finger he sits. The finger pointing at the ground makes him lie down. Finger twirling round makes him roll over. If I say 'sit, lie down, roll over etc' he looks confused. If I use hand gestures he has got it before I said it.
